Week #7 Pennies!

I thought the problem we received Friday was quite entertaining yet hard. The wording of the sentence was quite confusing though. I thought we had to find 2 numbers that cannot be made by using 2 rules but I ended up figuring out what we actually had to do. The proofs, in my opinion, is the hardest topic I learned until now probably because I really didn't do much of them in high school nor seen them much in my education. I find it that proofs are hard because we need to think in so many different ways that I don't know how to approach them.

First, we tried to generalize the problem by defining all the numbers that we know that it must be possible to create by either L or R:
( 2n, 64 - 2n ) n ∈ ℤ, 0 ≤ n ≤ 6

Using this we were able to generate all the even numbers should we apply one and only one operation. However we realized that the sum of pennies will always be 64, since no pennies are ever removed from the two piles. Knowing this, we used our formula of generating even number and added and subtracted by one on both sides to determine odd numbers:
( 2n - 1,  65 - 2n ) n ∈ ℤ, 0 ≤ n ≤ 6

Unfortunately this is wrong... It is possible to generate the pair (35, 29) but our formulas have failed to predict it.

Week #6 CSC165 with a taste of MAT137

Did I even learn this is AP classes...?
This week was more of a mesh of events for me because what I learn in CSC165 is also used in MAT137 and it seems like every thing I learn in these both classes seems to overlap to the point where it gets confusing sometimes. The reason for this is because, for example, The way to prove delta and epsilon are different syntax-wise and I find it difficult to remember which one is correct. I find the MAT137 proofs much easier because it has less rules to follow, however it is still confusing. I really hope I can get things straightened out before I mess up on a test or a quiz

Week #5 Mid-term Stress

Short break after ride from hell
This week was quite restless because of the stress from the mid-term test for CSC165. I was deathly worried because I usually review the class notes several times after the lecture because I don't get it right away. However when I actually got into the testing centre and when briefly saw reviewed the test, I found out it wasn't so hard as I thought it would be but I had some doubts. 2 days later in my Friday lecture, when I saw the answers I felt much better because I believe I have answered most of the questions correctly. However only the time will tell whether I did good or not.

Week #4: Assignments! Assignments! Assignments!

The assignment which was due in Friday was extremely harsh. Not that the questions were harsh, but since I am in group with other 2 guys from same class, we came up with multiple debates for every single questions. Even though there is a definite answer, we cannot access them and because we all had logical statements, we could simply say which one is correct. I realised that the English language can be extremely confusing because while someone can understand the statement as x, the other could understand it as y. Since that people who looked at statement means x, had some logical reasoning behind it, we couldn't simply say no to their explanation. We had to debate and look closely at every single question for extremely long time which caused great headaches but we have managed to gather other thoughts from other people, and compare our answers to see if it matched to ensure that we have gotten the answer. We managed to finish it but we still have some unsolved questions that can only be answered once we get our assignment back

I should probably learn this

The fact that none of us knew how to use LaTeX, we had to use Microsoft Word to write all our solutions which was pain in the behind. We constantly clicked the notations, copy pasted, etc. I should really learn how to do LaTeX so I don't have this problem in the next assignment.
